Google looking to join the legions of SEO companies

It's been reported that Google is considering starting their own SEO company. This, if true, would be potentially massive news for the SEO industry.

Serena Shapero over at Newswire has stated that Google intend to get their SEO business off the ground by early May. Allegedly, Google's SEO team would consist of about 100 employees, clients could be charged up to $25,000 a month and Google will have a team of SEO robots* to deal with poor rankings.

Allegedly, Google will promise only ethical practices but how many giant corporations play nice? If Google does jump into the SEO pool they will have a monopoly of the SEO industry and it will be nowhere near as fun as the game.

Small SEO businesses will surely be put out of business and probably some medium sized ones too. Will the SEO companies just take their business to Yahoo and Bing? Unlikely, seeing as how popular Google is with the general public.

You can't handle the truth!

Okay, so enough of the scare mongering, is it likely to happen? SEO has been around for a while; if Google was going to do it surely it would have by now. Also, Google offers a lot of information to users so they can produce sites with high quality SEO, surely they wouldn't bother if they had ever considered becoming an .

Some highly regarded colleagues of mine (and one I'm indifferent to) offered their take on the report. "Where's the proof?" was retorted to the Newswire article. I've had a quick look on Google's blog and if they were going to start a business in early May wouldn't there be (at least) a bit of advertising? Another colleague said "this would just be like buying space in Adwords only you pay $25,000 for it instead of a few pounds per click".

So, will Google be starting an SEO company? Don't hold your breath (that's just good advice for most situations).

By the way, if you're interested, the state of Oregon is incorporating Google Apps into the education system.

A back-link in its' simplest terms is: established every time any website has a visible hyperlink to another website. Each search engine rate back-links differently and their rating systems are guarded secrets. It is industry accepted that your site needs to be GOOGLE recognized or you miss out on 80% of your potential customers. Google rewards back-links within the same industry and back-links on sites using the same key words with their highest possible ranking, or so the SEO search engine optimization industry would have us believe.

Back-links are also established when a blog is accepted, or a comment on a blog is accepted, so long as you enter your full website URL in the URL box usually below the user name box and above the comment box. It is considered rude and or spamming to place the URL inside the comment box and will greatly reduce the acceptability of your blog comment. Most successful blog comment acceptability will result from paraphrasing part of the article and adding something worthwhile. But you will see a lot of that's reads like: "nice, hey keep up the good work", "I like that" " I must try that" all which when accepted earn you the same back-link as a well thought out response will so over complicating your answer may make it less acceptable. Blog comments accepted on the days hot topics are usually rated higher than other blogs and it stands to reason that blogs in your industry would rate higher than non related blogs.

You also receive back links by writing articles and having them accepted by on-line publishers as the website URLs are in the authors biography and form part of the published and reprinted articles. If you are writing for back-links then you should attempt to publish with high ranking publishers such as EzineArticles. You will find the higher ranking publishers will be very restrictive as to owners pumping their business interests except through the authors' biography.

Of all these back-links the most difficult to obtain, is the same territory competitors back links as most competitors don't like to advertise their competitors because it feels self defeating when promoting a competitor. But in the eyes of Google, and most of the other recognized demi-gods, you have done something that gets high rating and helps maintain or boost your Google page location and your Google page ranking.

There is another immeasurable back-link value and that is to back-link to community accounts like Facebook account(s) and Twitter. For Facebook to be effective it is thought you need to establish a URL link with each on each of your friends' pages. It may well take your friends copying and pasting your web site URL to their home page links. Easier said than done! If you offer something free and enjoyed by all you can include your URL in your welcome acceptance wall posting or message to your new friend. For example a cooking school could offer their recipes as free download as a new friend gift and if your wall posting is not removed it is thought that you have established a back-link.

The general accepted practice for back linking is to add a competitors URL to your site then approach them to do the same for you. Usually you will need Dreamweaver or any HTML editors, Firefox with the firebug extension and Chris Pedric extension. It really depends on what kind of template you are trying to build, in some cases they are available for free download. However, let's talk about making your own template for now. The JTT Template Toolbar Tool stand alone plug-in and a standalone server, preferably Movamp 1.0 or Movamp 1.5. I have tried a lot of Joomla Stand Alone servers and for now Movamp seems to be the be one of the industry. While Free are nice to have they are not always necessary, Well...the Dreamweaver extensions make it a little more intuitive than the JTT Template Toolbar Tool tool, however both the extensions and the JTT Template Toolbar Tool do the same job. If you are using JTT Template Toolbar Tool you can use any HTML editor that you need, even notepad will work for that. NVU portable is not a bad editor to use to build Joomla site even if it does have it's shortcomings like any editors around. How do you use and install movamp? Well that is pretty simple, simply unzip and click on the Joom2 go orange icon. This will start your Joomla site automatically in Internet Explorer by default. Give it at least a minute or tow to boot up as it takes time for the virtual server to start. Some settings are also available to set the default browser to Firefox but since I use Firefox portable I let it start in Internet explorer, minimize IE and work on the site in Firefox since it can handle the firebug extension and the Chris Pedric web developer extension.
